21st September 2019

Welcome to another issue of our bulletin! On Tuesday we have our District Governor Gary Langford coming to visit us. Gary will visit every Rotary Club in the 9910 area during his tenure and so it is important we give him a good welcome and engage him in our club meeting. We also have Craig Sumpton coming to speak from Diabetes Auckland, he is a Youth mentor and active in the local community
1st October            Gary Langford, DG,  visit and
                             Craig Sumpton Speaker Diabetes NZ
8th October            Board Meeting
15th October          Club assembly
Last week's speaker
Ranjna Patel, QSM, gave us an insightful talk on growing up as a third generation Indian in Auckland. Growing up the daughter of a shopkeeper gave her the basic understanding of business skills that has served her throughout her career. The prejudices that her and her husband faced as they started their medical practice in South Auckland. She spoke about the growth of the business and her current work, including the Ghandi Nivas project for men, where they now have three houses around Auckland. Having reached a certain status in the community she spoke of how some of the earlier prejudices could now be turned to her advantage as an ethnic lady in the community. Thank you Ranjna for coming to our meeting!
The Rotary Clubs in South Auckland have booked the Monterey Cinema in Howick for a showing of the film "Ride Like a Girl". The story of Melbourne Cup winning Jockey Michelle Payne and her tough ride to the top of the horse racing world. Her brother, Stevie, plays himself and is one of the stars of the movie - come along to find out more!
The showing is on Thursday 24th October ( before the Public holiday weekend) at 6.00pm - tickets are $25.00 and we are aiming to raise $1000 for Polio.
See me as I have the tickets - Stephen
